Association of Washington Business: Manufacturing Week 2021
AWB’s annual Manufacturing Week bus tour and video series raises awareness of the role manufacturing plays in our state and supports the successful growth of our state’s manufacturing sector. It shines a spotlight on Washington’s makers, highlights the importance of manufacturing to the state’s economic recovery and calls attention to ways policy makers, economic development groups, chamber of commerce leaders and others can support manufacturers. Challenges facing manufacturing include a complex regulatory environment, relatively high taxes and a skills gap making it difficult to find qualified workers. This is all on top of the unprecedented challenges posed by the coronavirus.
Our annual tour visits schools and shop floors in every corner of the state and in every sort of industry, from mint flavoring and agriculture to metal fabrication and PPE manufacturing. We aim to raise awareness of the role manufacturing plays, supports the successful growth of our state’s manufacturing sector, and also gives us the opportunity to call some attention to some of our state’s manufacturers who are contributing to their communities and the state economy in innovative and impactful ways.
Not only are we celebrating MFG Day, we are celebrating all week long from October 1st through the 8th. (MFG Day is organized nationally by The Manufacturing Institute, and is manufacturing’s biggest annual opportunity to inspire the next generation about the industry and careers in modern manufacturing.)
